More I-35 closures starting this week

WACO, TX — More I-35 closures have been announced for the upcoming week as construction continues in the downtown Waco area.

Several full closures are expected to take place in the upcoming week along I-35, including University Parks Drive underneath I-35, and the I-35 frontage roads at 5th Street, 9th Street, and 10th through 11 Streets.

University Parks Drive

University Parks Drive under the I-35 mainlanes will be closed overnight Sunday, Dec. 8 through Monday, Dec. 9. Another closure is expected in the same area on Friday, Dec. 13 through Wed., Dec. 18.

To cross underneath I-35, drivers headed westbound will need to use the northbound frontage road to MLK Blvd. and drivers headed eastbound will need to take Clay Avenue to 7th Street.

Southbound Frontage Road at 5th Street

The southbound I-35 frontage road will be closed at 5th Street beginning Monday, Dec. 9 through Tuesday Dec. 10 and again Sunday, Dec. 15 through Wednesday, Dec. 18.

Drivers headed eastbound will need to use the Clay Avenue to 7th Street route to access the frontage road. Drivers will still be able to get into local businesses, according to TxDOT.

Southbound Frontage Road at 9th Street

The I-35 southbound frontage road at 9th Street is scheduled to be closed as early as Wednesday, Dec. 11. Local access will be maintained through the side streets.

Northbound Frontage Road from 11th to 10th Street

The northbound frontage road from 11th Street to 10th Street will be closed for two months beginning Wedndesday, Dec. 11. It's expected to reopen around mid-February.

Drivers headed northbound will take 11th Street to Speight Avenue to get to the frontage road at 10th Street.
