WACO, TX — The Midway Independent School District has announced it is changing school start times in the 2020-2021 school year to deal with increased traffic congestion around road construction in the community.
The district will expedite elementary and intermediate start times by 20 minutes and delay the secondary start times by 15-20 minutes.
The adjusted times are as follows:
"The amount of heavy traffic in main corridors can lead to significant safety concerns for all drivers and pedestrians alike. As always, student safety is our first priority at Midway ISD," said Superintendent Kazanas.
This change will go into effect in August 2020 and complies with TEA-required minutes of instruction at each grade level.
"Our plan includes shortening bus routes so elementary bus routes will not begin earlier than they do currently, which is 6:30 a.m."
Campus doors will open at 7:00 a.m. (elementary/intermediate) and 7:30 a.m. (secondary) to allow for breakfast service and for parents’ commutes to work.
"We hope this much-needed change will provide ample time for safer, calmer commutes," said Superintendent Kazanas.
