RIESEL, TX — Riesel ISD police chief was arrested Tuesday morning by the Texas Rangers for impersonating a public servant.
When KXXV contacted the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), they said they had no record of a Riesel ISD Police Department. TCOLE said that after searching their database, they did not find anything about Riesel ISD having a police department in the first place.
Central Texas News Now went to the superintendents office for a comment and asked them why McNair was hired as the police chief of a police force not registered with the state.
According to the superintendent, Brandon Cope, they are going to continue working on paperwork necessary to establish a district police department.
Cope didn't go any further than to say -- that they are cooperating with Texas Rangers.
Jeff McNair was booked into the McLennan County Jail on a $5,000 bond. He bonded out on Tuesday afternoon.
McNair has over 16 years of law enforcement experience, mostly in the Dallas area.
This is a developing story. More updates will be posted as information becomes available.
