LACY LAKEVIEW, TX — Lacy Lakeview Police says they arrested a man for holding a woman against her will for eight hours before her escape early Monday morning.
43-year-old Darus Lomunt Oats has been charged with aggravated kidnapping and terrorizing his victim with assault by impeding breath by strangulation, and aggravated assault of a date or family member with a weapon.
Police Chief John Truehitt said his officers were called to a store on I-35 and Craven Street around 2 in the morning.
The victim, Oats' girlfriend, managed to escape and call for help.
According to the woman, she was held at gunpoint by Oats for 8 hours. She told police he choked and assaulted her.
Chief Truehitt says police went to the location and found Oats with a handgun.
He was taken to the McLennan County Jail on charges of aggravated kidnapping and terrorizing his victim with assault by impeding breath by strangulation and aggravated assault of a date or family member with a weapon.
It was determined that Oats had a previous felony conviction, and was also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
Oats was also named in a warrant out of a McLennan County court for failure to appear on a charge he had not been paying required child support.
