WACO, TX — UPDATE: Great news from the Humane Society of Central Texas!

At the original publication of this article, Humane Society leadership was worried about their capacity. However, after placing 88 animals with their forever homes, the Humane Society says no animals will be euthanized before Christmas!

The Humane Society of Central Texas is hoping to save animals from euthanization by getting them into foster homes.

The group says the number of new animals entering the Humane Society is up while adoption numbers are down.

According to the Humane Society, animals will be euthanized by the holidays if they don't receive community support.

To help get animals to their forever homes, the Humane Society is hosting the Foster Festivus. The goal is for every shelter animal to be in a loving foster home by December 23.

People can come in any day from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. to pick up a pet. No appointment is necessary.

Everyone from the household, as well as pets, must come to the meet and greet so staff can make sure it's a good fit with the foster animal.
