HEWITT, TX — The Hewitt Police Department has received statewide recognition for their law enforcement practices.
According to Hewitt PD, on August 22, the department received the Recognized Law Enforcement Agency Award from the Texas Police Chiefs Association Law Enforcement Recognition Program.
Hewitt PD says the program evaluates department's compliance with over 168 best business practices for Texas law enforcement. The practices "cover all aspects of law enforcement operations including use of force, protection of citizen rights, vehicle pursuits, property and evidence management, and patrol and investigative operations."
The department began the process to become a recognized agency in September 2017.
According to Hewitt PD, only 162 out of the 2,704 agencies in the state have received recognition.
