WACO, TX — Following recent heavy rains and winds in the area, the structural integrity of the sign on the 25th Street Theatre has deteriorated to a level that makes it unsafe.

Since the sign hangs directly over the sidewalk, it will be taken down and stored elsewhere.

City of Waco spokesperson Larry Holze said a local sign company and a structural engineer made the recommendation after inspecting the sign.

Weather permitting, the intersection of 25th Street and Grim Avenue, will be closed for several hours on May 16 while cranes are brought in to safely remove the sign and transport it for storage.

As plans for the new fire station at that location continue to develop, meetings will be held with architects and developers to receive input from the public.
