Waco Transit assist in evacuating businesses from area of natural gas line leak

WACO, TX — HAZMAT is on the scene of a natural gas line leak in Waco.

Waco Fire tweeted that units were responding to a natural gas line leak at Martin Luther King Jr Blvd and Elm Avenue. The call came in at 1:16 p.m.

Atmos Energy was training to perform maintenance on a gas line underground. The line had been previously patched up, but while digging the line started to leak excessively.

The Waco Transit was evacuating residents from the area. Now, it is being used for potential rehab for first responders.

The Waco-McLennan County OEM said that due to the natural gas leak, they have evacuated two local businesses near which are Lipsitz and Empire Feed Store.

They said if more evacuations need to be made, they will notify personnel.

No injuries have been reported.

Traffic in the area is being affected. They are asking drivers to stay away from the area.

Waco fire said that it should be fixed in the next couple of hours.
