WACO, TX — This weekend, fire stations throughout Waco will be lit up in red lighting as part of a national movement to honor firefighters who have died in the line of duty.

The Waco Fire Department and all 13 of it's fire stations are joining in on a national event called "Light the Night".

On Tuesday, Waco's I-35 bridge was lit in red in honor of the event.

Earlier Friday, Waco Fire Department presented the daughter of a fallen firefighter with a medallion to let her know her dad's name was added to an international memorial of fallen firefighters in Colorado Springs.

"Mean they're willing to put their lives on the lines to save others, people they often don't know. we hope it's a success and that people when they see that red light out there they realize what it's for," says Deputy Chief Robby Bergerson with the Waco Fire Department.

All the events are part of the "National Fallen Fire Fighters Weekend" - which takes place in the National Fire Academy Campus in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
