WACO, TX — The family of a Waco couple involved in a fatal crash earlier this month is pleading for help.
The mother died at the scene and the father is still in the hospital now family is struggling to take care of the couple's six children all while going through hurdles to get the kid's belongings from their parent's apartment.
On a rainy morning on Dec. 10 in Temple, the car of Richard and Erica Lanier spun out on I-35, crashing into an 18-wheeler
Erica the mother died at the scene. Richard sent to the hospital in critical condition.
His parents D'yonna and Lawrence Pullen rushed in from St. Louis to help their son.
"He's progressing physically, very well" says D'yonna.
Richard suffered a brain injury and has no memory of the car accident.
When he finally woke, he was immediately asking for his wife and children.
"He has no clue and not only is she gone, but she's gone. We've already had a funeral and she's been buried, and he didn't even get a chance to say goodbye at all." says D'yonna.
Three weeks since the crash, the children are with their other grandparents and money is getting tight. Because of security reasons at their son's apartment complex, they haven't been allowed inside to get any of the children's belongings or memories of their mother.
"3 weeks, can't get into the apartment, lawyers and paper work... no compassion... no compassion." says Lawrence.
They continue worry about their son and grandchildrens' belongings and wonder if they'll will be without a home before he's able to recover.
"Did you not think that could've been my daughter that could've been my son, that could've been my family, would i want to be treated like this?" says D'yonna.
Thankfully the children were not in the car at the time of the crash.
Once Richard is well enough to leave the hospital, he'll have to undergo therapy and 24-hour care.
