WACO, TX — Early voting for municipal elections in May starts on Monday.
In McLennan County nine out of 20 entities will be having an election. The City of Waco, McLennan Community College and Waco ISD canceled their elections because they didn't have any contested races.
"Always city and school elections are slower. In fact, we have less than 50 ballots by mail and for a general election we have 6,00 ballot by mail," McLennan County Elections Administrator Kathy Van Wolfe said.
Robinson ISD will have a bond election for $31.5 million to improve and repurpose the existing Robinson Junior High School campus and expand the current Robinson High School Agricultural facility.
In Hewitt, the election will be for four city council seats. Five candidates, including former City Councilman Kurt Krakowian who resigned from his position last year, is on the ballot for the council member at large position. Former City Manager Adam Miles is also running for that seat.
In Crawford, voters will be deciding whether to approve a nearly $2 million bond to improve, renovate and buy equipment for the district.
This year, 64 voters who are in the Crawford ISD boundaries but live in Coryell County will have to vote in Crawford.
Coryell County is not having an election this time around so McLennan County is hosting that election.
"It's unusual that we have to host an election for another county because usually we have other cities and schools that cross over into another county. But usually those elections are held in November and the county would be having an election and those issues would be on the November ballot for that county," Van Wolfe said.
Other cities will be having city council elections, including Marlin, Belton, Killeenand Temple.
The last day to apply for ballot by mail is on April 23.
Early elections run until April 30 and election day is May 4.
