MCLENNAN COUNTY, TX — Two people who were killed after an early morning crash northeast of Axtell have been identified.
Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Ryan Howard said 55-year-old Belinda Sanabria and 50-year-old Matias Sanabria Mendoza were pronounced dead at the scene. Both are from the San Antonio area.
The crash happened around 3 a.m. Saturday on State Highway 31 at Farm-to-Market Road 2311. Howard said a GMC SUV entered the intersection without stopping at a stop sign, then hit a Hyundai, causing the car to overturn multiple times.
The passenger of the GMC received an incapacitating injury and was taken to a hospital in Waco, Howard said. Sanabria was driving the Hyundai and Mendoza was in the passenger's seat at the time of the crash.
The driver of the GMC was also taken to the hospital for treatment on a possible injury. The driver was also arrested and charged with manslaughter, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, tampering with physical evidence and furnishing alcohol to a minor.
The driver was booked into the McLennan County Jail.
DPS will continue to investigate the crash.
