I-35 mainlanes scheduled to close for demolition of pedestrian bridge

WACO, TX — The demolition of the pedestrian bridge is back on after being put on hold because of severe weather earlier this month.

Portions of Interstate 35 through Waco will close during the overnight hours May 28 through June 1 to allow for crews to demolish the pedestrian bridge near 8th Street.

TxDOT said that on May 28, the northbound frontage road will be closed from 14th Street to 5th Street, as well as all side streets in that area that intersect with the frontage road.

On Wednesday, May 29, northbound lanes will be closed from 10th Street to 5th Street. Drivers traveling on I-35 will exit at 8th Street and re-enter at 5th Street. 4th and 5th Streets will be closed at this time.

On Thursday, May 30, southbound lanes will close. Drivers will exit at University Parks Drive and re-enter at 18th Street. S. University Parks, 4th and 5th Streets, and 17th and 19th Streets will be closed.

On Saturday, June 1, the southbound frontage road will be closed from 6th Street to 10th Street, as well as roads that intersect with the frontage road.

No closures will happen on May 31.

Frontage road work will occur between 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and mainlane work will be between 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
