WACO, TX — Childcare development centers are still allowed open despite new regulations shutting down bars, dine-in restaurants, and gyms in the area.
Local daycare facilities are taking action to keep your children safe.
The Center Faith Child Development Center says they stop parents at the door to check their temperatures when they drop their children off in the morning.
"During the time that they nap, [we] take the time to go over and disinfect all of the instruments that the children have used through out the day. Clean down the toys, wipe down the surfaces, door knobs," said Jessica Yerger, Tennyson Playcare Center Director.
Center Faith Child Development Director Linda Taft says they have plans in place for children who may appear sick, and are equipped with hospital grade cleaners.
With so many first responders, nurses, doctors and others now workings to slow the spread of COVID-19, the role of daycares to provide a safe and healthy environment is more important than ever.
"It's important for folks that are working to be able to rely on their daycare so we're trying to strike a balance, and give people the day care they need and take the steps that we can to protect the child caregivers as well as the children themselves," said Waco Mayor Kyle Deaver.
"To keep the stress off the children, it's important we maintain as much normalcy as we can here," said Yerger.
25 News was not allowed into the day care buildings in an effort to keep the area as clean as possible.
Daycares across the area said they are willing to share with parents the steps they are taking to keep their children safe.
