BELLMEAD, TX — A set of custom-painted motorcycle fenders and a custom-painted gas tank were returned to their owner seven years after being stolen.

According to the Bellmead Police Department, on July 15, 2012, a citizen called the department to report that his storage unit had been burglarized. During the burglary, a set of custom-painted motorcycle fenders and a custom-painted gas tank, which held great sentimental value to the owner, were stolen.

Bellmead PD says years passed and no suspects or leads could be obtained. Eventually the case was suspended.

Seven years later, the detective assigned to the case received information from Facebook and was able to locate the stolen items.

Bellmead PD says the case had passed the statue of limitations, meaning no one could be prosecuted for the burglary. The detective made contact with the person who had the stolen items, who voluntarily agreed surrender the items "due to their strong moral and ethical convictions."

Seven years to the day since the items were reported stolen, the items were returned to their owner. According to Bellmead PD, the owner was grateful and did not think he would see the parts again.
