Collision involving vehicle and bicyclist leaves one dead over weekend in Waco

WACO, TX — On January 2, 2021, shortly before 5 pm, Waco PD officers were dispatched to the 8700 blk of Chapel Rd. in reference to a collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist.

As officers arrived at the scene, the Waco Fire Department and AMR personnel were already present and appeared to be conducting medical treatment to a man that had been struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle.

While there, Waco PD officers learned that the man had reportedly pulled out of the parking lot of the Community Bank and Trust at 8820 Chapel Rd. and began riding his bicycle westbound lanes, traveling horizontally to the traffic flow.

At the same time, a woman driving a 2007 Jeep SUV was traveling westbound on Chapel Rd. when the female struck the bicyclist.

The female driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation.

The man on the bicycle was transported to a local hospital by AMR and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. He has been identified as 66-year-old Tim Eaton of Waco.

Investigators are looking into contributing factors to determine the cause of this crash. At this time, no charges have been filed.
