ROBINSON, TX — The child that was in critical condition after found being unresponsive on a Robinson ISD school bus on Friday has died.
The school district posted on their Facebook saying the 3-year-old child has died. Police identified the child as 3-year-old Leonardo Prado.
"We grieve with his parents and family and the Robinson community. Please continue praying for this precious family often as they face extremely difficult days ahead. Our counselors are available for students and staff," the district said.
An autopsy was ordered by the Bell County Justice of the Peace and the child was transported to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences.
Robinson ISD Superintendent Michael Hope released a statement:
"We are deeply saddened that the young student we reported on Friday passed away last night. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and we ask for continued prayers to be with them. There is nothing worse in life than the death of a child. As our staff grieve, they have been incredible to offer and provide support. We are providing counselors for students and staff. The district continues to cooperate fully with law enforcement as this matter is investigated. No further information about the investigation will be released; however, we will share arrangements and ways to support the family per their wishes. I want to thank area school districts and the entire Waco-area community for lifting up this family in prayer."
On Friday, a child was in critical condition after being found unresponsive on a Robinson ISD school bus Friday morning. Police said his seat belt was wrapped around his neck.
The bus was located in the 600 block of East Moonlight in Robinson when the call was made at 7:20 a.m. Robinson ISD said the student had a medical emergency while being transported on the bus.
The Robinson Police Department said that officials arrived on scene within minutes.
The 3-year-old was no longer breathing, and he was revived at the scene before being brought to the hospital.
Police said the boy had a seat belt wrapped around his neck.
Police said the incident is under investigation. They also added that in accordance with policy, the Texas Department of Family and Protective services was notified.
Services were announced on Monday. A visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Oak Crest Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Friday, Oct. 12 with a mass at noon at Sacred Heart Church followed by a burial service at Oakwood Cemetery.
