WACO, TX — A Baylor University student organization is conducting a shoe drive that will help send medical supplies to Venezuela.
The Latino Pre-health student organization is hoping to collect 2,500 pairs of shoes. The group will donate them to an organization that will in turn give $1,000.
The group, which has a goal of having 100 bags of shoes, has collected 30 thus far.
The student-led organization plans to spend that money on medical supplies to send to the country in crisis.
"It's very important that we show people that everyone deserves to have access to medicine, that everyone deserves to be taken care of. With us doing our small part. It will educate more people and have more people want to help and reach out," Latino pre-health student organization president and founder Giana Rodriguez said.
The boxes for the shoe drive at different buildings around campus, include the Bill Daniel Student Center, the Baylor Sciences Building and the St. Peter's Catholic Student Center.
The shoe drive ends March 14.
The group also plans to do a danceathon on April 5.
