AXTELL, TX — An Axtell High School baseball coach died in a single-vehicle accident while visiting friends.
Axtell ISD Superintendent Dr. JR Proctor announced the passing of Cameron Bankston in a Facebook post on Friday.
"It is with the heaviest of hearts that I announce the passing of our beloved coach Cameron Bankston. Last night Coach Bankston passed away in a single vehicle accident in Huckabay, Texas, while visiting friends," Superintendent Proctor said.
"Coach Bankston came to Axtell just a single year ago, and had already made an unmistakable impact on our school. Please keep his family and loved ones in your prayers."
Axtell ISD says they know this is a very difficult time for everyone involved, and if you or your child are in distress, please do not hesitate to contact High School Counselor Ashley Hardin through email at ahardin@axtellisd.net, and she will arrange for a virtual counseling session.
Axtell BSA also posted in honor of the coach saying:
"The lights are on at the ball fields in honor of coach Cameron Bankston...not only did he touch the lives of the ones he coached, but also the youth of this community! May his light continue to shine in the lives of those he cared for most.. the kids! Our deepest thoughts and prayers go out to the family of our beloved Coach Bankston!"
