Second arrest made in connection to June murder in Waco

WACO, TX — UPDATE:

Tuesday evening at approximately 5:24 pm, Malachi Jawan Wright of Waco was arrested and charged with 1st-degree felony Murder in connection to the murder investigation of Tyrese Carroll. This investigation is still ongoing.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Waco Police have identified Elijah Marquise Thompson of Waco has been arrested and charged with 1st-degree felony Murder.

Waco Police originally investigated a shooting near Whataburger on N Valley Mills left a 19-year-old man dead on June 20, 2020.

This victim was identified as Tyreese Carrol.

Police say on June 20, at approximately 1:50 am, officers were dispatched to the Whataburger at N Valley Mills Dr and Lake Air in reference to an alarm call.

As officers arrived, they learned that a shooting had taken place in the adjacent parking lot of the restaurant.

Officers then learned that a 19-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds had been taken to a local hospital by private vehicle and dropped off in the Emergency Room area of the hospital.

Hospital staff were unable to revive the 19-year-old, at which time he was pronounced dead, according to police.

No other information is available at this time and this shooting is still under investigation.
