WOODWAY, TX — Police arrested a 50-year-old man for online solicitation of a minor.

On Thursday, Woodway officers arrested 50-year-old Shannon Charping on charges of Online Solicitation of a Minor, Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon (Handgun), and Possession of a Controlled Substance,(Methamphetamine), in a Drug Free Zone after he attempted to meet who he believed was a 16-year-old female at Whitehall Park in Woodway.

Police said Charping communicated in a sexually explicit manner through a social media messaging service with who he believed was a 16-year-old female, but who were actually Woodway detectives.

Charping sent several graphic images and messages during these conversations before suggesting a meeting in person.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., Charping arrived at Whitehall Park, the prearranged meeting location, and was taken into custody. He was found to be armed with a loaded handgun and in possession of methamphetamine. He was transported to the McLennan County Jail.

"It is more important than ever, as our children are at home for extended periods, for parents to monitor their online activity and cell phone use. If you believe your child has been in contact with a predator, please contact your local police department," the Woodway Public Safety Department said.
