WACO, TX — A woman is in the McLennan County Jail after she hit another woman with a vehicle while intoxicated and fled the scene. The incident happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday on S. 12th St and LaSalle.
Waco police said that when they arrived on scene, they found Grace Oheeron, 21, lying in the middle of the road. She was unconscious and bleeding from the head.
A witness told officers they were stopped at the intersection and witnessed the crash. The witness said that a vehicle ran the red light and struck the woman who was attempting to cross LaSalle Ave. The suspect vehicle then fled the scene.
Officers discovered evidence at the crash which eventually led them to the University Apartments located at 2900 Primrose. Police made an arrest of the suspect driver at this location.
It was determined through the investigation that 22-year-old Gabriela Estrada had been driving the car and had struck Oheeron.
Estrada was transported to the hospital for a blood draw and medical clearance. She was later transported to jail and charged with intoxicated assault and failure to stop and render aid causing serious bodily injury.
Oheeron is expected to survive but suffered multiple serious injuries including head trauma, multiple broken bones and remains in a local hospital ICU.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
