13 arrested, thousands in stolen merchandise recovered in Central Texas Marketplace theft sting

WACO, TX — Thirteen people were arrested and more than $5,000 worth of stolen merchandise was recovered during a retail theft sting in the Central Texas Marketplace.

The Waco Police Department says the Street Crimes and Traffic Unit conducted the retail theft operation over the last two weeks.

During the operation, officers encountered 24 people and investigated 11 in-progress thefts.

Thirteen people were arrested for theft, four people were given a citation for theft and six people were listed as suspects in theft cases.

Eleven stores were victimized by the 24 individuals and include:

  • Old Navy
  • Children Place
  • Carter's
  • Kohls
  • Victoria Secret
  • Bed Bath & Beyond
  • Rack Room
  • Cavender's
  • Academy
  • Walmart
  • Home Depot

Waco PD says over $5,000 in stolen merchandise, most being children's clothing, was recovered and returned to the stores they came from.

Authorities say all of the suspects were found in possession of property from multiple stores at the time of arrest.

In addition to the theft and engaging in organized crime charges, 10 warrants were also cleared through arrests.
