101 youth, 84 staff at McLennan County State Juvenile Correctional Facility have tested positive for COVID since start of pandemic

The Texas Juvenile Justice Department provided updates related to COVID-19 at their facilities.

Since the start of the pandemic, 332 staff members at the agency’s secure facilities have tested positive for COVID-19, according to TJJD.

  • Evins Regional Juvenile Center: 79
  • Gainesville State School: 26
  • Giddings State School: 70
  • McLennan County State Juvenile Correctional Facility: 84
  • Ron Jackson State Juvenile Correctional Complex: 73

Since the start of the pandemic, 288 youth at the agency’s secure facilities have tested positive for COVID-19.

  • Evins Regional Juvenile Center: 45
  • Gainesville State School: 13
  • Giddings State School: 99
  • McLennan County State Juvenile Correctional Facility: 101
  • Ron Jackson State Juvenile Correctional Complex: 30

The agency says 2,673 COVID-19 tests have been administered to TJJD youth.

"As an agency focused on public safety, the highest priority of the Texas Juvenile Justice Department is to protect the youth in our care and our dedicated employees," TJJD said.
