FORT HOOD, TX — A Fort Hood Soldier from Sugar Land, Texas has been named 2019 Soldier of the Year after winning the U.S. Army's Best Warrior Competition.
Spc. David Chambers enlisted in the Army in 2018 and is a member of C Troop, 1st Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment and III Corps at Fort Hood.
The six-day-competition for Best Warrior was held at Fort A.P. Hill, Va., and the Pentagon from Oct. 6 to Oct. 11, 2019.
During the competition, "Elite competitors test their knowledge, skills and abilities by conquering urban warfare simulations, demonstrating critical thinking, formal board interviews, physical fitness challenges, written exams, and warrior tasks and battle drills relevant to today’s operating environment," according to the U.S. Army.
III Corps and Fort Hood took to social media to congratulate Spc. Chambers on Tuesday, saying:
Congratulations to Spc. David Chambers of the 3rd Cavalry Regiment and III Corps for being named best of the best! You've made America's Hammer and all of #FortHood proud, and truly represent the Force of the Future! Let's give it up!
