KILLEEN, TX — The Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Texas hosted its annual Education Celebration on Thursday.

George Crump, a Killeen ISD student, said when his family fell on hard times, the Boys and Girls Club was there to help.

"My stepfather passed away around 2012, around that area, and so they were there," said Crump, who will graduate from Killeen ISD this year.

On Thursday, the organization took an even bigger step in furthering his education by giving him more than $6,000 in scholarships provided by local donors.

"Well, today is our annual Education Celebration," said Tiana Quick, CEO of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Texas. "This really started about honoring our kids, who are getting scholarships. We serve over 12,000 members every year. Many of them have the opportunity to apply for scholarships. A lot of them are full rides to CTC and then Texas A&M,"

Crump was one of 18 students receiving a scholarship today. In total, more than $100,000 was donated.

"Well, my next step is to go to Texas A&M, study political science and business, and just give back to my community because it gave back to me," said Crump.
