WHITNEY, TX — Bosque County officials have identified the man who died at Lake Whitney after a canoe capsized on March 25.

The Bosque County Sheriff's Office said that two men, Barry Collins and Edmundo Calvillo, were fishing at Uncle Gus Marina when their canoe capsized Monday afternoon.

Officials said Collins surfaced and believed Calvillo went underwater. Neither were wearing life jackets.

Witnesses reported the pair went to shore to get more beer before the canoe capsized.

Collins was found the same place where the canoe capsized just after 11 a.m. Tuesday. Investigators said he was temporarily staying in the Laguna Park area.

The body of Calvillo was found 6-10 feet in the lake, according to officials. The autopsy shows his cause of death was drowning, which officials believe to be accidental.

Bosque County deputies believe he was drunk at the time the canoe capsized.

Texas Game Wardens, Bosque County Sheriff's Office and the Hill County Constables Office were assisting with the search.
