KILLEEN, TX — A 17-year-old is in the Bell County Jail for assaulting a Killeen ISD teacher.

Tyler Cravens is being charged with assault of a public servant. His bond has been set at $35,000.

His arrest comes after a video surfaced on social media of him attacking a teacher for taking away his cell phone. Warning, the video contains foul language.

The district said that they are aware of the video on social media. They believe the incident happened on last Monday while the student was in In School Suspension (ISS). Cravens was initially arrested by Killeen ISD police for resisting arrest and interference with police duties, leading him to be in ISS in the first place.

"We're taking this really seriously, working with our police department and everyone around us, to make sure they realize that this won't be tolerated with Killeen ISD," said Taina Maya, Chief Communications Officer with Killeen ISD.

As of September 2019, according to the Texas Education Agency, police have investigated 35 actions of assault on district employees carried out by by 26 students

"These kinds of behaviors are absolutely concerning and in no way, shape or form will be tolerated. The district, in cooperation with investigating authorities, will continue to be vigilant in protecting all students and staff," said Killeen ISD Superintendent Dr. John Craft.
