FORT HOOD, TX — Trees for Troops kicked off Saturday morning on Fort Hood, and Junior enlisted soldiers had their pick of free, farm-grown Christmas trees.

Each family had a special holiday story to share.

It has been a big year for Natanyah Abatteng and her husband.

"Having a baby on the way and stuff, so a bunch of new expenses," said Abatteng.

To help lighten the load for military families like hers, each year Fort Hood partners with the Christmas Spirit Foundation to host "Trees for Troops."

"I heard about Trees for Troops and I was like, 'Oh I could really use a tree this year,'" said Abatteng.

Trees for Troops has donated hundreds of trees to Fort Hood Soldiers in grades E-1 to E-4.

Each tree was provided on a first come, first serve basis.
