BELTON, TX — Three Belton High School students have been named to the 2021 Texas Music Educators Association All-State Choir.
Seniors Rachel Schiller and Jouper Muring as well as junior Daniel Holcomb were selected Saturday after a tryout process that began last fall. The process included district, region and area levels.
Junior Sarah Millington was selected as an alternate.
All four students are a part of the BHS a cappella choir, under of the direction of Tonya Lovorn and Trey Shonkwiler. Holcomb also studies privately with Shelley Dennis.
“This is huge,” Lovorn said. “I am so proud of their hard work. They have proven to themselves and everyone around them that hard work pays off, even during a pandemic.”
The Belton students were selected out of more than 50,000 Texas students who auditioned at the regional level. Four of the high school's nine students were selected.
Almost 2,000 students were chosen to advance, which is the highest honor a Texas music student can receive, according to BHS.
An All-State performance event will not be held this year due to COVID-19.
