TEMPLE, TX — An arrest was made on Thursday in connection to a fatality crash that occurred in early February.
The suspect, 23-year-old Juan Carlos Lumbreras, was arrested by Belton Police Department for racing on a highway causing bodily injury/death and for an accident involving personal injury/death. Both offenses are second-degree felonies.
An investigation conducted by TPD's Traffic Control Unit and Criminal Investigations Division determined that Lumbreras was engaging in a street race which led to the crash. A warrant was then issued for his arrest by Justice of the Peace Barfield on April 16, 2020.
The deceased of the accident has been identified as 22-year-old Miguel Berumen.
Temple Police say Berumen was driving at an excessive speed when he struck another vehicle from behind. He then lost control and was ejected from his vehicle.
