TEMPLE, TX — Temple ISD has delayed the first day of school for the upcoming school year following an order issued by the Bell County Public Health District.
The order requires schools to delay in-person classes until after September 7. However, the district has decided to delay both in-person and online instruction until September 8.
In a letter sent to parents, Temple ISD listed several reasons for the change:
- Remote learning is statistically less optimal than educating children with in-person instruction, according to the district.
- Moving the start date will allow more families an opportunity to participate in on-campus instruction in order to accommodate for working families.
- Parents will have more of a choice when it comes to choose in-person or online education for their child.
- The district will have more time to prepare for the school year.
