Teenager shot twice outside home on New Year's Day

BELTON, TX — UPDATE: Round Rock Police arrested 23-year-old Ricardo Mendoza on two warrants related to the shooting.

Police said he is awaiting transfer from Williamson County Jail to Bell County Jail.

Mendoza is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and deadly conduct.

A teenager was shot twice outside of a Belton home early on New Year's Day.

The Belton Police Department says officers were dispatched around 4:30 a.m. on January 1 to the 500 block of East 3rd Avenue for reports of a shooting.

Police say the 19-year-old man was shot twice in the roadway in front of a residence. Neighbors reported hearing gunshots in the area.

The victim was taken to Baylor Scott & White Memorial Hospital, where he is currently being treated and is in stable condition.

Police say the suspects have been identified. The case is currently being screened by the Bell County District Attorney's Office. Formal charges are pending.
