The Killeen School Board approved class sizes waivers submitted by the district last week for 17 different class rooms on 13 different Killeen ISD campuses.
The waivers are required if a classroom exceeds the 1 teacher to 22 studio ratio recommended by the Texas Education Agency.
Killeen Deputy Superintendent Dr. Eric Penrod said that it's common in districts of Killeen's size to make adjustments for unexpected growth throughout the school year and that's exactly what he says they are doing.
"I think we are always looking to create a better system. I think that the district does a really good job looking at who is coming, how many people are coming, and projecting," Dr. Penrod said.
Dr. Penrod went on to say that the bond that passed two years ago really alleviated a lot of those secondary issues as the district continues to building campuses and elementary schools to accommodate growth.
While there were 17 classrooms over the recommended size, many of the classrooms were over in size by 1 student or less.
