SALADO, TX — A Salado police officer's patrol car was hit while she was investigating a crash on I-35 Wednesday night.

The crash happened around 11:20 p.m. on northbound I-35 just north of 2484.

The Salado Police Department says Officer Sonia Castillo was working a crash investigation along with the Texas Department of Public Safety when a driver crashed into the patrol car.

They said a 2017 Hyundai passenger car collided with the unoccupied Salado Police Unit.

The Salado Police Unit had all emergency lighting activated and was struck along the passenger side (side swiped) by the Hyundai passenger car.

The 48 year old male driver was not injured, nor were any of the other crash victims or Salado Police Officer investigating the previous crash.

The driver of the Hyundai was charged with fail to move over for emergency vehicle. Saledo Police say the crash investigation is complete.

No one was injured or inside the patrol car at the time of the crash. The department said authorities did have their emergency lights on.

Salado Chief of Police Pat Boone is urging drivers to move over or slow down when they see emergency personnel and is grateful this crash did not have a tragic outcome.
