Police: Harker Heights home shot up while two children were inside

HARKER HEIGHTS, TX — Police are investigating after a Harker Heights home was shot up while two children were inside Monday morning.

The Harker Heights Police Department says officers responded to the 1600 block of Dakota Trace on January 20 to reports of deadly conduct.

The homeowner, a single mother of twin 6-year-old girls, was startled awake around 6:30 a.m. after hearing multiple shots being fired and a vehicle speeding away.

Taking shelter in a closet for hours, the homeowner explains more shots were fired into the back of the home two hours later, around 8:30 a.m.

The homeowner later discovered that a vehicle in the driveway and the home had been struck by apparent gunfire.

The woman saying "I'm scared furious, that, I'm very messed up about it. It just makes me feel like I just need to protect my kids more than ever now."
