KILLEEN, TX — Killeen police continue to crack down on drivers speeding through school zones.
“You’re basically condensing a several mile radius of kids and adults walking their kids to school all into a two to three block city street, obviously that increases your chances of your child running into the car,” said officer Bobby Castillo, of the Killeen Police Department.
He allowed Central Texas News Now to observe as they enforced traffic laws outside of a school. In about 10 minutes, he pulled over two drivers.
Parents echo the same concerns over speeding in school zones.
“I think people should be a little more aware of how they’re driving. It’s not just them on the road, you have different vehicles and cars and children of course,” said Joe Ortiz, a Killeen parent.
Killeen police issued 76 citations in the area of Pershing Park Elementary School last week. Officers say the problem still persists.
“You don’t want any child to get hurt for you just being careless behind the wheel,” said Alvin Hudson, a Killeen parent.
Anyone with concerns about speeding in their neighborhood should contact their police department.
