An online petition is calling on President Trump to lower flags to half-staff in honor of Pfc. Vanessa Guillen.
The remains of Guillen are believed to have been found in an area near the Leon River in Bell County after she disappeared from Fort Hood on April 22.
Two suspects have been named in the case. Spc. Aaron Robinson died by suicide on July 1 as officers approached him. Cecily Aguilar of Killeen was arrested for arrested on July 1 for tampering/ fabricating physical evidence with intent to impair a human corpse- a second degree felony.
According to the arrest affidavit, Robinson and Aguilar dismembered and attempted to burn Guillen's body after Robinson bludgeoned her with a hammer in an arms room on Fort Hood.
The petition says lowering flags to half-staff would honor "an American Soldier who should not have had her life ended so abruptly."
