KILLEEN, TX — Central Texans are stepping up after a homeless shelter in Killeen closed its doors in May.

Project: Spread a Lil Love, a nonprofit organization, began collecting items to donate to the homeless in Killeen after hearing that the local shelter was closing down.

They are collecting everything from hygiene products, to food and clothing all in an effort to give back and help those in need.

The founder of the organization said she decided to make this their next mission because they couldn’t stand by and do nothing.

"Helping the community any way we can because, you never know, that could be you. You know, out there on the street at any point. So, I just want to sew a seed and give back,” said Clarissa Trevino, founder of Project: Spread a Lil Love.

The organization will be collecting donated items through June 9 and will then deliver it to Helping Homeless in Killeen for distribution the following Monday.

For information on how to donate or other ways to help, you can contact Project: Spread a Lil Love or Helping Homeless in Killeen.
