TEMPLE, TX — Two men were being held in the Bell County Jail for illegal reentry after cocaine was found in their car during a traffic stop.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 1, a Texas DPS trooper stopped a 2015 Nissan for a traffic violation on northbound I-35 between FM-93 and Midway Drive in Temple.

Texas DPS says the Nissan was occupied by two Hispanic men.

During the traffic stop, DPS says the trooper discovered what was believed to be cocaine inside of the car.

DPS says the driver was arrested without incident.

The passenger fled into the woods to the east of the interstate. About an hour and fifteen minutes later, he was located and arrested. DPS says multiple agencies assisted in the search.

Both men are being held in the Bell County Jail on a federal immigration detainer for illegal reentry. DPS says federal drug charges will be pursued at a later time.

DPS says the case has been turned over to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Waco. The name of the suspects are not being released at this time.
