TEMPLE. TX — The McLane Family has donated 250 food boxes to the Salvation Army of Bell County to help Central Texas families in need.

The donation was made by Elizabeth and Drayton McLane Jr., Amy and Drayton McLane III, and Amy & Denton McLane.

This is the second shipment of 250 food boxes received by the Salvation Army of Bell County. Each food box contains enough food to feed a family of four for several days.

The boxes are assembled and shipped to The Salvation Army by McLane Hunger Solutions and will be distributed to selected clients.

The Salvation Army of Bell County is one of four Texas locations to receive the boxes. Other locations include north Houston, Burleson and Fredricksburg.

The Temple boxes will be distributed to individuals and families that The Salvation Army has served through the center and are now a part of their rehousing program. Case managers continue to assist these clients for up to two years after their time at the center.

The Salvation Army says these food boxes are making a difference for their clients during the current pandemic.

“The gratitude these families express to us is touching,” said Lt. David Beckham, commanding officer for Bell County. “The McLane Family’s generosity is feeding people in our communities who otherwise might go to bed hungry tonight. We are grateful to them for coming alongside The Salvation Army to help those in need.”

“Our family is excited to partner with the Salvation Army to distribute food boxes to those less fortunate and in need, said Drayton McLane, Jr. “Elizabeth and I, Drayton III and Amy, and Denton and Amy all are inspired by this opportunity to help others. We have distributed 2,000 food boxes to the four areas in Texas where we have a business presence and another 1,000 food boxes to help with the hurricane disaster in McAllen. We look forward to continuing this work providing food boxes, through our company, McLane Global/McLane Huger Solutions to be distributed by the Salvation Army. We believe strongly in the mission and ministry of the Salvation Army and their creed from founder William Booth, ‘You cannot warm the hearts of people with God's love if they have an empty stomach and cold feet.’”

Donations to The Salvation Army of Bell County can be made online or by mailing a check to PO Box 1884 Temple, TX 76503.
