HARKER HEIGHTS, TX — A man has been arrested for the murder of a Fort Hood soldier who was found shot to death on the side of the road.
Around 10:16 a.m. on May 18, Harker Heights Police personnel were called out regarding an unresponsive man in the 2100 block of Fuller Lane in Harker Heights.
A preliminary investigation suggested the man had died from a gunshot wound and his death was a murder.
The victim was later identified as 27-year-old Brandon Scott Rosecrans of Fort Hood.
According to police, Rosecrans and the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Brandon Michael Olivares, were traveling together in the victim's car before Olivares allegedly shot at the soldier. Rosecrans was removed from the vehicle and left in the area adjacent to the roadway.
The case was reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney's Office and a complaint was returned charging Olivares with murder. A warrant was obtained on Wednesday, August 5.
At the time of the issuance of the warrant, Olivares was in custody of the Bell County Sheriff's Office on unrelated charges. The warrant was served at the Bell County Jail.
Justice of the Peace Cliff Coleman arraigned Olivares on Wednesday and set his bond at $1,000,000.
The associated investigation by the Harker Heights Fire Department into the vehicle fire reported around 10:27 a.m. on May 18 is ongoing. The vehicle was confirmed to belong to Rosecrans.
