KILLEEN, TX — A man was arrested after police said he started a fire in a home trying to elude officers on Thursday.
Police said at approximately 9:05 a.m., officers were dispatched to the Stewart Street in reference to a stolen vehicle.
When officers arrived to the area, they found the stolen vehicle, a 2019 Chevy pickup, with a suspect inside. Officers gave commands to the suspect to step out and the driver refused.
When he attempted to leave, he collided into a parked motorcycle and car. The suspect then jumped out of the truck and fled on foot towards Goodnight. The suspect ran through the backyards of several residences, he then ran into a home in the 500 block of Goodnight.
Officers secured the area and gave commands to the suspect to come out.
When they noticed smoke was coming from the home, they realized that he had started a fire in the home.
At around 10:55 a.m., the suspect exited the home and officers were able to detain him.
He was transported to the Killeen City Jail.
There were no injuries reported during the incident.
