KILLEEN, TX — The Leadership Killeen Community Group is doing what it can to spread awareness of family violence in the greater Killeen area.

On Tuesday, the group hosted a family violence awareness luncheon. Participants watched an awareness video and heard from survivors.

Members of the group will use the proceeds raised from the event to create necessity bags for family violence survivors.

"Those necessity bags will contain items that they may need during the escape from their abusive situation. Items of clothing, personal hygiene products, hair products, things of that nature, some items for children," said Lisa Hatfield, crime victim liaison with the Killeen Police Department.

The Leadership Killeen Community Group will create those packages at a later date and they will eventually donate them to the Killeen Police Department Crime Victim Liaison Office.
