KILLEEN, TX — Some folks in Killeen are still shaken after a shooting that took place outside of a North Killeen McDonalds Tuesday.
"Just several gun shots every night," said a resident who did not want her identity revealed.
Killeen Police Department officials shared the department has received 103 calls for service regarding shots fired so far this month. Last October, the department received 93 calls for shots fired for the entire month.
"It's busy. We're looking at the uptick. We're trying to find some of those root causes. You know we don't know. We're not against the Killeen Police Department. We're not against guns. This is Texas where we are. We want people to if they have have guns to use them responsibly," said Killeen Chief of Police Charles Kimble.
Those 103 calls this month resulted in two shooting investigations, the same number of investigations in October 2018.
There have been two homicides so far this month, compared to zero for last October.
When the Killeen Police Department took a preliminary reportfor the 2018 crime rate earlier this year, there was a 25% decrease in crime.
