KILLEEN, TX — A Killeen police officer has been arrested for filing a false police report, according to the Killeen Police Department.

On February 24, 44-year-old Officer Benjamin Harp contacted on-duty officers in reference to his privately owned vehicle being burglarized. Officer Harp claimed KPD property was taken in the burglary.

Officer Harp provided a statement to investigating officers on-scene that was proven false during the course of the investigation.

KPD says an arrest warrant was obtained and Harp turned himself in to the Bell County Jail on March 6.

Officer Harp is a five-year officer. He has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation.

“The actions of this officer do not reflect the integrity displayed by the employees of the Killeen Police Department every day,” Chief Kimble said. “Accountability is paramount in our organization.”

KPD says this case is still under investigation.
