KILLEEN, TX — Some students spent the first day of school waiting over an hour for their bus, according to the Killeen Independent School District.
In a Facebook live video, the district explained that inaccurate counts and confusion over buses led to over an hour wait for some students. The district also said some special education buses went to homes that did not have pickups, adding to the delays.
One viewer told Central Texas News Now her daughter was still on campus two hours after her drop-off time.
The district said there was a two hour meeting Monday evening to discuss how the first day went. According to the district, overall the first day of school went well.
The district said their bus driver shortage was well below where it was in the spring.
The district urged parents to make sure their children knew the route number and bus symbol for their correct bus. The district said while the bus number may change, the route number and symbol will not.
The district also apologized for the delay and said issues should be worked out as the week progresses.
