KILLEEN, TX — Killeen ISD has revised its 2020-2021 academic calendar to include seven additional early out days and seven new remote learning days.

Superintendent Dr. John Craft and the Board of Trustees announced the chances during the October 27 board meeting.

The district says the changes provide educators additional time to plan and prepare lessons.

On remote learning days, students will attend class online at home or have the option to go to their home campus to receive instructional support. The district says students on-campus during remote learning days must bring their district-issued device with them or are encouraged to bring a personal device if they have one available.

The following Fridays will be student remote learning days:

  • November 6
  • December 4
  • January 22
  • February 19
  • March 26
  • April 23
  • May 21

All employees are required to report as scheduled on these days.

Campuses will remain open for students who do not have access to technology or Internet. Students will also have the option to complete assignments provided by their teacher on remote learning days.

Prek-3 and Prek-4 students will be given assignments they can complete without technology.

If a student does not compete the work for the assigned remote day, the student will be counted absent.

District administrators will be assigned to campuses to provide students instructional support on the remote learning days so teachers can focus on planning.

Killeen ISD also added the following early dismissal days to the calendar:

  • January 15
  • January 29
  • February 5
  • February 26
  • March 5
  • April 16
  • April 30

All campuses will dismiss two hours early.

In the event of bad weather, February 15 and April 2 are designated as bad weather make-up days. If additional time is needed, April 16 and April 30 could become normal school days instead of early outs.

The district will continue to serve breakfast and lunch on remote learning days, as well as provide transportation for eligible riders.

The last day of school for students remains Thursday, May 27, 2021.
