KILLEEN, TX — Killeen City Council members will consider adopting a resolution Tuesday night that would assist in funding an expansion of Chaparral Road.
If adopted, Killeen would join Bell County, Killeen ISD, and Harker Heights in expanding the road from two to five lanes, just in time for the opening of the new Killeen high school in 2022.
Killeen ISD Superintendent Dr. John Craft is expected to attend the council meeting to vocalize support for the expansion.
“Being a fast growth community, the supporting infrastructure is a necessity,” said Dr. Craft.
Chapparal Road is the main artery that will service the new high school school once it opens.
Dr. Craft said the district has already taken actions to accommodate the expected expansion.
“The Board of Trustees has elected to go ahead and build the frontage property to city specs, so that we are being good stewards of our taxpayers support and money,” said Dr. Craft.
The City Council meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday.
