15-year-old dead after stealing vehicle, crashing into yards in Killeen

KILLEEN, TX — A 15-year-old boy is dead after stealing a vehicle and crashing through several yards on Rancier Avenue and Brim Lamkey in Killeen Sunday.

According to DPS, a trooper was sitting in his vehicle on 38th and E Rancier on duty around 2:05 PM Sunday.

The trooper witnessed a Kia Sedan driving erratically and says the car almost hit him, according to DPS.

The trooper activated his lights and started chasing the car eastbound towards Temple.

The vehicle was driving upwards of 100mph at one point and lost control, crashing into several backyards before coming to a stop in a ditch.

The driver was transported to Seton Medical Center with serious injuries where he was pronounced dead, according to DPS.

During the investigation, DPS learned the driver was a male juvenile and had just stolen the vehicle.

The family of the juvenile has been notified.

The owner of the stolen car has been contacted.

No other injuries were reported.
